4 Baruch (Paraleipomena Jeremiou)

Introduction

A NOTE ON THIS RENDERING

THE WITNESS — AND HOW IT WAS SUPPLIED

This is 4 Baruch — the Paraleipomena Jeremiou, “the things omitted from Yirmeyahu” — the last and most overtly Messianic of the three books that bear Baruch's name on this shelf. Its clean public-domain English witnesses proved not to be machine-fetchable in continuous form (the modern translations are under copyright; the public-domain Harris edition of 1889 is a Greek critical text, not an English one). The House was therefore FURNISHED with a complete text of the book, and this volume renders that supplied text into the House vocabulary and voice — exactly as the wanting fifth chapter of 3 Baruch was supplied and set. It is declared here honestly: the English base was provided to the House, not restored by it, and has been rendered to match the other Baruchs.

AVIMELEKH'S SIXTY-SIX YEARS, AND THE FIGS THAT DID NOT WITHER

Before the city falls, Yirmeyahu sends AVIMELEKH the Kushite to the vineyard of Agrippa to gather figs; and there, at noon, he sleeps SIXTY AND SIX YEARS and wakes thinking he has slumbered an hour (chapters 3, 5). He finds the figs still fresh, DRIPPING WITH MILK; and the sign is read plainly — as the figs were preserved uncorrupted through the long sleep, so shall the flesh be preserved and raised. “The AVIR is coming, and shall raise thee up in thy tabernacle … he who preserved the basket of figs, the same shall preserve thee also” (6:7–11). It is the resurrection of the body, told in a basket of figs; the number sixty-six (seventy of the exile, less the four years) is the book's hidden clock, and is left as it stands.

THE EAGLE THAT REVIVED THE DEAD

The letters between Baruch in Yerushalayim and Yirmeyahu in Bavel are borne by an EAGLE that speaks with a human voice (chapters 6–8). To prove the letter true, the eagle lights upon a corpse being carried out to burial, and the dead man LIVES AGAIN — “and this came to pass, that they might believe” (7:17). The people cry, “Is this the Elohim who appeared unto our fathers in the wilderness by Moshe, who hath now appeared also unto us?” The House prints the wonder as it stands, a resurrection-sign set within a resurrection-book.

THE WATER OF THE YARDEN, AND THE GREAT SEAL

The condition of return is a testing at the river: “ye shall prove them by the water of the YARDEN … this is the sign of the great seal” (6:27); those who will not be separated from Bavel are shut out both from Yerushalayim and from Bavel, and become a people apart. The ancient reader heard in “the great seal” the seal of immersion; the House prints the figure as it stands and lets the water of Yarden speak for itself — the same river where the Beloved would later be sealed.

YIRMEYAHU'S THREE-DAY TRANCE, AND THE PROPHECY OF YESHUA HAMASHIACH

The crown of the book is its ninth chapter. Yirmeyahu, at the altar, falls as one dead; for THREE DAYS his body is kept unburied, a voice forbidding it — “bury not him that yet liveth; for his soul is coming into his body again” — and on the third day his soul returns and he lifts his voice (9:7–15). Then he prophesies openly: “Glorify Elohim, and the BEN HAELOHIM who awakeneth us, YESHUA HAMASHIACH, the Light of all the ages … he shall come, and choose for himself TWELVE SH'LICHIM, that they may preach among the nations; he whom I beheld … coming into the world upon HAR HAZEITIM” (9:16–22). The Name is set as the book itself sets it in the tongue — Yeshua the Mashiach — not imported by the House but printed as it stands. This is why the volume is placed as it is: a prophet, raised on the third day, foretelling the Son of Elohim, the Twelve, and the Mount of Olives, generations before the Besorah.

THE STONE THAT TOOK HIS LIKENESS — “THEY WERE STONED”

Because he named the Ben HaElohim, the people take up stones, as they had for Yeshayahu (9:23). Yirmeyahu sets up a STONE that by the command of Elohim takes on his likeness; the crowd stones the stone while he finishes delivering his mysteries to Baruch and Avimelekh; then the stone cries out, “Behold, Yirmeyahu standeth in your midst!” and he is stoned indeed (9:26–30). Here is the tradition behind the roll of faith — “they were stoned, they were sawn asunder” (Ivrim 11:37): the sawing belongs to Yeshayahu, the stoning to Yirmeyahu. It is set as it stands, a martyr's death sealing a Messianic prophecy.

THE VESSELS HIDDEN UNTIL THE BELOVED

As the city falls, Yirmeyahu commits the holy vessels of the service to the earth, which swallows them up, to be guarded “until the coming of the BELOVED” (3:8–12) — the same tradition the House prints in 2 Makabim of the ark and altar hidden by Yirmeyahu in the mountain. The keys of the Heichal he casts toward the sun, to be kept “until the day in which Yahuah shall require them” (4:2). The House prints both as they stand: the vessels wait, sealed in the earth, for the Beloved to whom the whole book is straining.

THE TREE OF LIFE, AND THE WORLD TURNED

At the last Yirmeyahu sees the ETZ HACHAYIM planted in the midst of GAN-EDEN come into the world, making the barren trees fruitful and the boastful to wither (9:18–20); and the great reversal — “that which is scarlet shall become white as wool; the snow shall be made black; the sweet waters shall become salt, and the salt sweet” (9:21) — the signs of the age to come, kin to the wonders of 4 Ezra. It is printed as the vision it is.

A NOTE ON THE STYLE OF THIS VOLUME

As with 2 and 3 Baruch, this volume carries the House vocabulary in the earlier manner — the Hebrew term transliterated, with its English sense in parentheses at first appearance (“Avimelekh (Abimelech),” “the water of the Yarden (Jordan)”) — rather than the green Hebrew-script gloss of the newer volumes. The three Baruchs stand together in one dress, and await together a future normalisation to the script-gloss standard. The AVIR ruling of 2 Baruch is honoured here at 6:7, where “the Mighty One” who raiseth the dead is set as the AVIR.

RULE X.4

The text is rendered as it stands. Its wonders — the sixty-six-year sleep, the figs that do not corrupt, the speaking eagle that raises the dead, the stone that wears a prophet's face — are printed as the book tells them, not softened to the probable. Its overtly Messianic close, transmitted through Christian hands, is set as it stands and not trimmed; the Name Yeshua HaMashiach is printed because the supplied text sets it, and its meaning is weighed in this note, not in the verse. Interpretation belongs here; it is never smuggled into the text.

4 Baruch (Paraleipomena Jeremiou)Chapter 1

The word of Yahuah to Yirmeyahu: depart, for the city shall fall
1.0×
1And it came to pass, when the benei Yisra'el (children of Israel) were taken captive by the melekh (king) of the Kasdim (Chaldeans), that the word of Yahuah came to Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah), saying: 2"Yirmeyahu, My chosen one, arise and go forth out of this city, thou and Baruch (Baruch), for I am about to destroy it because of the multitude of the sins of them that dwell therein. 3For your prayers are as a firm pillar within it, and as an unbreachable wall encircling it. 4And now, arise and go forth, before the host of the Kasdim surround it." 5And Yirmeyahu answered and said, "I implore Thee, Adonai (Lord), suffer Thy servant to speak before Thee." 6And Yahuah said unto him, "Speak, My chosen one, Yirmeyahu." 7And Yirmeyahu said, "Yahuah Tzeva'ot (of Hosts), wilt Thou deliver the chosen city into the hand of the Kasdim, that the king may boast with the multitude of his people, and say, 'I have prevailed over the holy city of Elohim (God)'? Far be it, Adonai; but if it be Thy will, let it be destroyed by Thine own hand." 8And Yahuah said unto Yirmeyahu, "Since thou art My chosen one, arise and go forth out of this city, thou and Baruch, for I am about to destroy it because of the multitude of the sins of them that dwell therein. 9For neither the king nor his army shall come into it, save that I first open its gates. 10And now, go unto Baruch, and tell him these words. 11And at the sixth hour of the night, go up upon the wall of the city, and I will show thee that, save that I first destroy the city, they cannot enter into it." 12And after He had spoken these things, Yahuah departed from Yirmeyahu.

4 Baruch (Paraleipomena Jeremiou)Chapter 2

Yirmeyahu and Baruch rend their hearts before the altar
1.0×
1And Yirmeyahu ran and told these things unto Baruch; and as they came into the Beit Elohim (house of God), Yirmeyahu rent his garments and put dust upon his head, and went into the sanctuary of Elohim. 2And Baruch saw him with dust upon his head and his garments rent, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Father Yirmeyahu, what aileth thee? Or what manner of sin hath the people committed?" 3For whensoever the people sinned, Yirmeyahu would sprinkle dust upon his head, and would pray on behalf of the people until the sin was forgiven them. 4And Baruch asked him, saying, "Father, what aileth thee?" 5And Yirmeyahu said unto him, "Refrain from the rending of thy garments; rather let us rend our hearts. And let us not draw water for the troughs, but let us weep and fill them with tears. 6For Yahuah will not have mercy upon this people." 7And Baruch said, "Father Yirmeyahu, what hath happened?" 8And Yirmeyahu said, "Elohim is delivering the city into the hand of the king of the Kasdim, to take the people captive into Bavel (Babylon)." 9And when Baruch heard these things, he also rent his garments, and said, "Father Yirmeyahu, who revealed this unto thee?" 10And Yirmeyahu said unto him, "Wait with me a little, until the sixth hour of the night, that thou mayest know that this word is true." And they both remained at the mizbeach (altar) weeping, and their garments were rent.

4 Baruch (Paraleipomena Jeremiou)Chapter 3

The malachim descend; the vessels of the Heichal are given to the earth; Avimelekh is sent to the vineyard
1.0×
1But when the hour of the night arrived, as Yahuah had said unto Yirmeyahu, they went up together upon the walls of the city, Yirmeyahu and Baruch. 2And behold, there came a sound of trumpets, and malachim (angels) came down from shamayim (the heavens), holding torches in their hands, and they stood upon the walls of the city. 3And when Yirmeyahu and Baruch saw them, they wept, saying, "Now we know that the word is true." 4And Yirmeyahu besought the malachim, saying, "I implore you, destroy not the city as yet, until I have spoken a word with Yahuah." 5And Yahuah spake unto the malachim, saying, "Destroy not the city until I have spoken to My chosen one, Yirmeyahu." 6Then Yirmeyahu spake, "I pray Thee, Yahuah, suffer me to speak before Thee." 7And Yahuah said, "Speak, My chosen one, Yirmeyahu." 8And Yirmeyahu said, "Behold, Yahuah, we know that Thou art delivering the city into the hands of its enemies, and they shall carry the people off into Bavel. What wilt Thou that I do with the holy vessels of the service of the Heichal (the Temple)?" 9And Yahuah said unto him, "Take them and deliver them unto the earth, saying, 'Hear, O earth, the voice of Him who created thee, 10who formed thee in the abundance of the waters, 11who sealed thee with seven seals in seven seasons; and after these things thou shalt receive thy fruitful season. 12Guard the vessels of the service until the coming of the Beloved.'" 13And Yirmeyahu spake, "I implore Thee, Yahuah, show me what I should do for Avimelekh (Abimelech) the Kushite, for he did many good deeds for Thy servant Yirmeyahu. 14For he drew me up out of the miry pit; and I would not that he should see the destruction of this city and its desolation, but that Thou wouldest show him mercy, that he be not grieved." 15And Yahuah said unto Yirmeyahu, "Send him to the vineyard of Agrippa, and in the shadow of the mountain I will shelter him, until I return the people to the city. 16But thou, Yirmeyahu, go with thy people into Bavel, and abide with them, preaching unto them, until I return them to the city. 17But leave Baruch here, until I speak with him." 18And after Yahuah had said these things, He went up from Yirmeyahu into shamayim. 19And Yirmeyahu and Baruch went into the sanctuary, and gathering up the vessels of the service, they delivered them unto the earth, even as Yahuah had commanded them. 20And straightway the earth swallowed them up. 21And the two sat down and wept. 22And when it was morning, Yirmeyahu sent Avimelekh, saying, "Take the basket, and go forth unto the farm of Agrippa by the mountain road, and bring a few figs to give unto the sick among the people; for the favour of Yahuah resteth upon thee, and His glory upon thy head." 23And having said these things, Yirmeyahu sent him away; and Avimelekh went as he had been bidden.

4 Baruch (Paraleipomena Jeremiou)Chapter 4

The keys cast toward the sun; the captivity; Baruch''s lament over Yerushalayim
1.0×
1And when it was morning, behold, the host of the Kasdim surrounded the city; and the great malach trumpeted, saying, "Enter into the city, O host of the Kasdim, for behold, the gate is opened unto you; therefore let the king come in with his multitude, and take all the people captive." 2But Yirmeyahu, taking the keys of the Heichal, went outside the city, and facing the sun he cast them, saying, "I say unto thee, O sun, take the keys of the Heichal of Elohim, and keep them until the day in which Yahuah shall require them of thee; for we were not found worthy to keep them, for we were become false stewards." 3And while Yirmeyahu was yet weeping for the people, they carried him off with the people, dragging them into Bavel. 4And Baruch put dust upon his head, and sat and wept this lamentation, saying, "Wherefore was Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) made desolate? For the sins of the beloved people was she delivered into the hands of the enemies, for our sins and those of the people. 5But let not the lawless boast, and say, 'We were strong enough to take the city of Elohim by our own power'; but because of our sins was it delivered unto you. And our Elohim will pity us, and return us to our city; but ye shall not have life. Blessed are our fathers Avraham (Abraham), Yitzchak (Isaac), and Ya'akov (Jacob), 6for they departed out of this world, and saw not the destruction of this city." 7And after he had said these things, Baruch went forth out of the city, weeping and saying, "Grieving over thee, Yerushalayim, have I gone out from thee." 8And he abode in a tomb, sitting there.

4 Baruch (Paraleipomena Jeremiou)Chapter 5

Avimelekh sleeps sixty-six years, and the figs do not wither
1.0×
1But Avimelekh bore the figs in the heat of the day; and coming upon a tree, he sat beneath its shade to rest a little. 2And leaning his head upon the basket of figs, he slept, falling asleep for sixty and six years; and he awoke not from his sleep. 3And afterward, when he arose out of his sleep, he said, "Sweetly have I slumbered a little, yet is my head heavy, for I had not my fill of sleep." 4Then, uncovering the basket of figs, he found them dripping with milk. 5And he said, "I would fain slumber yet a little, for my head is heavy; but I fear lest I fall into a deep sleep and be slow to awake, and my father Yirmeyahu think the less of me. 6For were he not in haste, he had not sent me forth so early this morning. I will therefore arise, and go on in the heat; for is there not heat every day? Is there not labour?" 7So he arose, and took up the basket, and set it upon his shoulders, and went into Yerushalayim; and he knew it not, neither the house, nor his own quarter. 8Neither did he find his kindred, nor any of the neighbours. 9And he said, "Blessed be Yahuah, for a great stupor is fallen upon me this day. This is not the city Yerushalayim!" 10"I have lost my way, because I came by the mountain road when I arose from my sleep; and because my head was heavy for want of sleep, I have gone astray. It will seem a marvel to Yirmeyahu that I lost my way!" 11And he went forth out of the city, and looking closely, he saw the landmarks of the city, and said, "This indeed is the city; I did but lose my way." 12And he returned again into the city, and searched, and found none of his own people. 13And he said, "Blessed be Yahuah, for a great stupor is fallen upon me." And he went forth out of the city again, and abode there grieving, not knowing whither he should go. 14And he set down the basket, saying, "I will sit here until Yahuah take this stupor from me." 15And as he sat, he beheld an old man coming from the field; and Avimelekh said unto him, "I say unto thee, old man, what city is this?" 16And he said unto him, "It is Yerushalayim." And Avimelekh said unto him, "Where then is Yirmeyahu the kohen, and Baruch the reader, and all the people of this city? For I found them not." 17And the old man said unto him, "Art thou not of this city, that thou rememberest Yirmeyahu this day, and askest concerning him after so long a time? 18For Yirmeyahu is in Bavel with the people; for they were taken captive by Nevuchadnetzar (Nebuchadnezzar) the king, and Yirmeyahu is with them, to preach unto them and to teach them the word." 19But as soon as Avimelekh heard this from the old man, he said, "Wert thou not an old man, and were it not unseemly for a man to rebuke his elders, I would laugh thee to scorn, and say thou art beside thyself; for thou sayest that the people were carried captive into Bavel. 20Had the floodgates of shamayim come down upon them, there had not yet been time to go into Bavel! 21For how long is it since my father Yirmeyahu sent me to the farm of Agrippa to fetch a few figs, that we might give them to the sick among the people? 22And I went forth and gathered them; and coming upon a certain tree in the heat, I sat down to rest a little, and I leaned my head upon the basket and fell asleep. 23And when I awoke, I uncovered the basket, thinking I was late, and I found the figs dripping with milk, even as when I gathered them; and thou sayest that the people were carried captive into Bavel!" 24"But that thou mayest know, take the figs and see." And he uncovered the basket of figs for the old man; and he saw them dripping with milk. 25And when he saw them, the old man said, "O my son, thou art a righteous man, and Elohim would not that thou shouldest see the desolation of the city; therefore hath He brought this stupor upon thee. 26For behold, it is this day sixty and six years since the people were carried captive into Bavel. 27And that thou mayest learn, my son, that this which I tell thee is true, look out into the field, and see that the growth of the crops is not yet come; behold also the figs, that their season is not yet; and understand." 28Then Avimelekh cried with a loud voice, saying, "I will bless Thee, O Elohim of shamayim and of earth, the rest of the souls of the righteous in every place." 29Then he said unto the old man, "What month is this?" And he said, "Nisan, the twelfth day." 30And taking some of the figs, he gave them to the old man, and said unto him, "May Elohim guide thee with His light unto the city above, Yerushalayim!"

4 Baruch (Paraleipomena Jeremiou)Chapter 6

Avimelekh and Baruch reunited; the figs, the sign of the resurrection; the letter to Bavel

1After these things, Avimelekh went forth out of the city and prayed unto Yahuah. 2And behold, a malach of Yahuah came, and taking hold of his right hand, brought him back to the place where Baruch was sitting; and he found him in a tomb. 3And when they saw one another, they both wept, and kissed one another. 4And looking up, Baruch saw with his own eyes the figs sheltered in Avimelekh's basket. 5And lifting up his eyes to shamayim, he prayed, saying, "Thou art the Elohim who bestowest a reward upon them that love Thee. 6Prepare thyself, my heart; rejoice and be glad in thy tabernacle, saying unto thy fleshly dwelling, 'Thy sorrow is turned to joy.' 7For the AVIR (the Mighty One) is coming, and shall raise thee up in thy tabernacle; for sin hath not taken root in thee. 8Be refreshed within thy tabernacle, in thy virgin faith; and believe that thou shalt live. 9Look upon this basket of figs; for behold, they are sixty and six years old, and they have not withered, neither do they stink, but they are dripping with milk. 10Even so shall it be for thee, my flesh, if thou do the things commanded thee by the malach of righteousness. 11He who preserved the basket of figs, the same shall preserve thee also by His power." 12After he had said these things, Baruch said unto Avimelekh, "Arise, and let us pray that Yahuah may reveal unto us how we may send word unto Yirmeyahu in Bavel, concerning the protection that was vouchsafed thee upon the way." 13And Baruch prayed, saying, "Our strength, O Yahuah Elohim, the chosen light that proceedeth out of Thy mouth: 14we implore and beseech of Thy goodness, O great Name which no one can know, hear the voice of Thy servants, and let knowledge come into our heart. 15What shall we do, and how shall we send these tidings unto Yirmeyahu in Bavel?" 16And while Baruch was yet praying, behold, a malach of Yahuah came, and said unto Baruch all these words: "O counsellor of the light, be not anxious how thou shalt send unto Yirmeyahu. 17For tomorrow an eagle cometh unto thee at the hour of light, and thou shalt direct it unto Yirmeyahu. Therefore write in the letter: 'Speak unto the children of Yisra'el: Let him among you that is become a stranger be put away; and let them spend fifteen days; and after these things I will lead you into your city, saith Yahuah. 18Whosoever is not separated from Bavel, let him not come into the city; and I will punish them, that they be not received again by the Bavelim, saith Yahuah.'" 19And after these things, the malach departed from Baruch. 20And Baruch sent unto the market of the nations, and fetched papyrus and ink, and wrote the following letter: 21"Baruch, the servant of Elohim, writeth unto Yirmeyahu in the captivity of Bavel: Rejoice and be glad! 22For Elohim hath not suffered us to depart out of this body grieving over the city which was laid waste and outraged. 23Wherefore Yahuah hath taken pity upon our tears, and hath remembered the brit (covenant) which He established with our fathers Avraham, Yitzchak, and Ya'akov. 24And He sent His malach unto me, and told me these words, which I have sent unto thee. 25Now these are the words of Yahuah, the Elohim of Yisra'el, who led us out of the land of Mitzrayim (Egypt), out of the great furnace: Because ye kept not My commandments, but your heart was lifted up, and ye stiffened your neck before Me, in wrath and anger I delivered you to the furnace in Bavel. 26Howbeit, if ye will hearken unto My voice, saith Yahuah, from the mouth of Yirmeyahu My servant, whoso hearkeneth, him will I bring back from Bavel; but whoso will not hearken shall become a stranger to Yerushalayim and to Bavel. 27And ye shall prove them by the water of the Yarden (Jordan); whoso will not hearken shall be made manifest. This is the sign of the great seal."

The eagle bears the letter to Bavel, and revives a dead man

1And Baruch arose and went forth out of the tomb, and found an eagle sitting outside the tomb. 2And the eagle spake with a human voice, and said, "Hail, Baruch, thou steward of the faith!" 3And Baruch said unto it, "Thou art chosen out of all the birds of shamayim, for this is manifest by the gleam of thine eyes; tell me, I pray thee, what doest thou here?" 4And the eagle said unto it, "I was sent, that thou mayest send by me whatsoever word thou desirest." 5And Baruch said unto the eagle, "Art thou able to bear the message unto Yirmeyahu in Bavel?" 6And it said, "Verily, for this cause was I sent." And Baruch took the letter, and fifteen figs out of Avimelekh's basket, and bound them unto the neck of the eagle. 7And he said unto it, "I say unto thee, O king of the birds, depart in peace and in health, and bear the message for me. Be not as the raven which Noach (Noah) sent forth, and which returned not again unto the ark; 8but be as the dove, which on the third time brought word unto the righteous. Even so do thou also bear the precious word unto Yirmeyahu and unto the captives that are with him, that it may be well with thee. 9Take the papyrus unto the people, and unto the chosen one of Elohim. 10And if all the birds of shamayim compass thee about and desire to fight with thee, contend against them; Yahuah shall give thee strength. 11And turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left, but as an arrow shot straight, go forth in the power of Elohim; and may the glory of Yahuah be with thee upon all the way that thou shalt travel." 12Then the eagle took flight, the letter bound about its neck, and departed for Bavel; and when it was come thither, it rested upon a certain tree outside the city, in a desert place. 13And it kept silence until Yirmeyahu came by; for he and certain others were going forth to bury a dead man outside the city. 14For Yirmeyahu had asked of Nevuchadnetzar the king, saying, "Give me a place where I may bury the dead of my people." And the king gave it him. And as they went out with the dead man and weeping, they passed by the eagle. 15And the eagle cried with a loud voice, saying, "I say unto thee, Yirmeyahu, chosen one of Elohim, go, gather the people, and come hither, that they may hear a letter which I have brought thee from Baruch and Avimelekh." 16And when Yirmeyahu heard, he glorified Elohim, and went out and gathered the people with their wives and their children, and came unto the place where the eagle was. 17And the eagle came down upon him that had died, and he came back to life. And this came to pass, that they might believe. 18And all the people marvelled at that which was come to pass, saying, "Is this the Elohim who appeared unto our fathers in the wilderness by Moshe (Moses), who hath now appeared also unto us by this eagle?" 19And the eagle said, "I say unto thee, Yirmeyahu, come, untie this letter and read it unto the people." So untying the letter, he read it unto the people. 20And when the people heard it, they wept, and put dust upon their heads, and said unto Yirmeyahu, "Save us, and tell us what we shall do, that we may enter our city once again." 21And Yirmeyahu answered and said unto them, "Whatsoever ye have heard from the letter, observe it; and Yahuah shall lead us into our city."

Yirmeyahu writes back; the figs given to the sick

1And Yirmeyahu also wrote a letter unto Baruch, saying: "My beloved son, be not slack in thy prayers, entreating Elohim on our behalf, that He may speed our journey, until we come out from under the rule of this lawless king. 2For thou wast found righteous before Elohim, and He suffered thee not to come hither, that thou mightest not see the affliction which is come upon the people at the hands of the Bavelim. For it is even as when a father hath an only son, and he is given over unto punishment; and they that behold the father, and console him, cover his face, that he see not how his son is punished, and be racked with grief the more. 3Even so did Elohim have mercy upon thee, and suffered thee not to come into Bavel, that thou mightest not see the affliction of the people. 4For since we came hither, grief hath not departed from us, even unto this day, sixty and six years. 5For oftentimes I would go forth, and find some of the people hung up by Nevuchadnetzar the king, weeping and saying, 'Have mercy upon us, O Elohim!' when they called upon a strange god. 6And hearing these things, I would grieve, and would weep a twofold lamentation: not only because they were hung up, but also because they called upon a strange god, saying, 'Have mercy upon us.' 7And I would remember the feast days which we kept in Yerushalayim before we were carried captive; and remembering, I would groan, and return to my house distressed and weeping. 8Now therefore pray, in the place where ye are, thou and Avimelekh, for this people, that we may depart hence. 9For I say unto thee that the whole time we have been here they have oppressed us, saying, 'Sing us a song from the songs of Tziyon (Zion), the song of your Elohim.' 10And we say unto them, 'How shall we sing unto you, being in a strange land?'" 11And after these things, Yirmeyahu bound the letter unto the neck of the eagle, saying, "Go in peace, and may Yahuah watch over us both!" 12And the eagle took flight, and came unto Yerushalayim, and gave the letter unto Baruch; and when he had untied it, he read it, and kissed it, and wept when he heard of the griefs and the afflictions of the people. 13But Yirmeyahu took the figs, and distributed them among the sick of the people; and he continued teaching them to keep themselves from the pollutions of the nations of Bavel.

4 Baruch (Paraleipomena Jeremiou)Chapter 9

Yirmeyahu falls as dead three days, revives, and prophesies the Mashiach; the stone that took his likeness

1And it came to pass that they who were with Yirmeyahu continued nine days, rejoicing and offering up sacrifices for the people. 2But on the tenth day, Yirmeyahu alone offered up a sacrifice. 3And he prayed a prayer, saying, "Kadosh, kadosh, kadosh (holy, holy, holy), the incense of the living trees, the true Light that enlighteneth me, until I be taken up unto Thee; 4for Thy mercy I plead, for the sweet voice of the two seraphim, for another fragrant odour of incense. 5And may Micha'el (Michael), the archangel of righteousness, who openeth the gates unto the righteous, be the object of my care, until he lead the righteous in. 6I implore Thee, Yahuah Shaddai (Almighty) of all creation, the unbegotten and incomprehensible, in whom all judgment was hidden before ever these things came to be." 7And as Yirmeyahu said these things, standing at the mizbeach with Baruch and Avimelekh, he became as one of them that have given up the soul. 8And Baruch and Avimelekh remained weeping and crying with a loud voice, "Woe unto us! Our father Yirmeyahu hath left us: the kohen of Elohim is departed." 9And all the people heard their weeping, and they all ran unto them, and beheld Yirmeyahu lying upon the ground as one dead. 10And they rent their garments, and put dust upon their heads, and wept bitterly. 11And after these things, they made ready to bury him. 12And behold, there came a voice, saying, "Bury not him that yet liveth; for his soul is coming into his body again." 13And because they heard the voice, they buried him not, but remained in a circle about his tabernacle three days, 14saying, "At what hour shall he arise?" 15And after three days his soul came into his body, and he lifted up his voice in the midst of them all, and said, "Glorify Elohim with one voice! 16Glorify ye all Elohim, and the Ben HaElohim (the Son of God) who awakeneth us, YESHUA HAMASHIACH (Yeshua the Anointed), the Light of all the ages, the lamp that cannot be quenched, the life of faith! 17And after these times, yet four hundred and seventy and seven years, and then He cometh to the earth. 18And the Etz HaChayim (the Tree of Life), which is planted in the midst of Gan-Eden (the Garden of Eden), shall cause all the barren trees to bear fruit, and they shall grow and put forth. 19And the trees that had already sprung up and boasted, saying, 'We have lifted our top unto the air,' He shall cause to wither, together with the loftiness of their branches. 20And the tree that is firmly rooted He shall cause them to be judged. 21That which is scarlet shall become white as wool; the snow shall be made black; the sweet waters shall become salt, and the salt sweet, in the great light of the joy of Elohim. 22And He shall bless the isles, that they may bear fruit, at the word of the mouth of His Mashiach (Anointed One); for He shall come! And He shall go forth and choose for Himself twelve sh'lichim (apostles), that they may preach among the nations; He whom I beheld adorned by His Father, and coming into the world upon Har HaZeitim (the Mount of Olives); and He shall fill the hungry souls. 23And as Yirmeyahu was speaking concerning the Ben HaElohim, that He is coming into the world, the people were wroth, and said, "These again are the words spoken by Yeshayahu ben Amotz (Isaiah the son of Amos), saying, 'I saw Elohim and the Son of Elohim.' Come, and let us not slay him by that same death, but let us stone him with stones." 24Now Baruch and Avimelekh were exceedingly grieved, because they longed to hear in full the mysteries which he had seen. 25And Yirmeyahu said unto them, "Be still, and weep not; for they shall not slay me until I have declared unto you all that I saw." 26And he said unto them, "Bring me a stone hither." And he set it up, and said, "O Light of the ages, make this stone to be in my likeness, until I have declared everything unto Baruch and Avimelekh." 27Then the stone, by the command of Elohim, took upon it the likeness of Yirmeyahu. 28And they were stoning the stone, thinking that it was Yirmeyahu. 29But Yirmeyahu delivered all the mysteries which he had seen unto Baruch and Avimelekh; and afterward he stood plainly in the midst of the people, desiring to bring his stewardship to an end. 30Then the stone cried out, saying, "O foolish children of Yisra'el, wherefore do ye stone me, thinking that I am Yirmeyahu? Behold, Yirmeyahu standeth in your midst!" And when they saw him, they ran upon him with many stones, and his stewardship was fulfilled. 31And Baruch and Avimelekh came and buried him; and they took the stone, and set it upon his grave, writing thus: "This is the stone that was the companion of Yirmeyahu."
